Heavyweight Concrete

This type of concrete is proportioned to achieve densities ranging between 2,400 and 4,000 kg/m3. Strengths of up to 30.0 MPa are achieved through the use of aggregates derived from iron ore. Its specific mass is achieved with the use of special aggregates, typically hematite.

APPLICATIONS

• Facilities subjected to radiation
• Hospitals
• Nuclear power plants
• As ballast
• Counterweight (e.g., in gas pipelines)
• Radiation barrier (X-ray or gamma cameras, atomic reactor walls)
• Subpressure slabs

ADVANTAGES

• Radioactive insulator
• Reduction in the volume of pieces used as ballast or counterweight
• Replacement for lead panels
